How to pay your electricity bill with USDT (no P2P needed)
Got USDT but your meter is beeping? Here's how to turn crypto into light in a few taps: no P2P trade, no waiting for a buyer, no bank transfer in between.
It's 9pm. Your prepaid meter has started beeping. You have USDT in your wallet, but no Naira in your bank account.
The usual fix goes like this: open an exchange, find a P2P buyer, wait for them to send Naira, refresh your bank app again and again, then open another app to buy units. If the buyer is slow, you sit in the dark.
There's a shorter way.
The short version
With JOYET you deposit your crypto, it turns into Naira inside the app, and you pay the bill straight from that balance. No buyer, no P2P chat, no moving money between three apps.

Step by step
- Tap Add money. Pick the coin you have: USDT, USDC, BTC or ETH.
- Pick the network and copy your address. Send on the same network the app shows. Sending on the wrong network is the most common way people lose crypto, so take five seconds to check.
- Send from your wallet or exchange. When the deposit arrives, it's converted to Naira at the rate you see in the app and lands in your JOYET balance.
- Open Electricity and choose your DisCo. Ikeja, Eko, Abuja, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kaduna, Kano, Jos, Benin, Aba and more.
- Pick Prepaid or Postpaid, then enter your meter number. Tap Verify and JOYET shows the name on the meter, so you know it's the right one.
- Choose an amount and confirm with your PIN. For prepaid, your token appears in the app. Type it into your meter and you're done.
Tip: JOYET remembers meters you've paid before. Next time, tap your meter from the Recent list and enter the amount.
Prepaid or postpaid?
Both work. Prepaid gives you a token to load on your meter. Postpaid pays against your account. Either way, the receipt stays in your Activity tab if you ever need to show it to your DisCo.
Why not just use P2P?
P2P works, and lots of people use it every day. But for small, everyday payments it's a lot of effort:
- You need a buyer. At night or on weekends that can take a while.
- You carry the risk. Fake payment screenshots and reversed transfers are real problems.
- It's slow for small amounts. Nobody wants a full P2P trade for ₦5,000 of light.
Not just electricity
The same balance pays for airtime and data on MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile, DStv, GOtv and StarTimes, WAEC and JAMB PINs, and transfers: free and instant to other JOYET users, or to any Nigerian bank account.
Stay safe
- Only deposit to the address shown in your own app, and always on the network it shows.
- Never share your PIN or login codes. JOYET staff will never ask for them.
- Check the name on the meter before you pay. A wrong number means someone else gets your units.
